Collection: DofD Film Festival

From April 25-28, 2024 volunteers will host a viewing of the award-winning film 1946. Hosts will choose the date/time/location of their event within the window of April 25-28.

This is a fundraising event.  Proceeds from all merch sales after costs go to help fund Defense of Democracy.

Defense of Democracy presents an opportunity for members to inspire your communities to engage in our work and raise funds to continue our mission of educating the public on the importance of the public school and library systems in a functioning democracy, and providing training, tools, and coordination for strategic volunteer engagement in communities across the country.

The film we’re presenting is “1946: The Mistranslation that Shifted Culture.” This is an award-documentary that speaks to the root of what we believe in—that the accepted canon is not always true, and that a healthy democracy must allow its citizens free access to many different points of view. This film tells the story of researchers who trace the origins of the Christian anti-gay movement to a mistranslation of the Bible in 1946, casting doubt on a biblical basis for LGBTQIA+ prejudice.
